BLUE

By Anne Whitehouse

PROMPT — Who am I today?

Dusty, worn blue,

sun-faded house.

The ghost of the sea

breathes over it at night,

leaving a taste of salt.

When I hung up the clothes

I had brought with me,

I saw they all

were shades of blue.

This is the color

I come back to,

the very hue

of my soul.

Anne Whitehouse’s most recent poetry collection is OUTSIDE FROM THE INSIDE (Dos Madres Press, 2020), and her most recent chapbook is ESCAPING LEE MILLER (Ethel Zine and Micro Press, 2021).
