PROMPT—Peace ...
He sat peacefully on a bench, gazing at the stream.
Like a framed landscape, he contemplated nature’s art.
The keeper was mesmerized by the land's beautiful configuration.
This section of the forest inspired him.
He relished an opportunity.
Like an artist, the keeper modified the landscape.
His carpentry skills created amenities to entice visitors.
The environmentalist began his mission.
He started to clear underbrush and install wooden benches
and striking colored birdhouses hanging from trees, and colorful
flamingos secured by the stream.
Two small miniature piers jut into the stream.
Like dressing a Christmas Tree, the keeper decorated the landscape.
He enjoys creating beauty in partnership with nature.
At times, I saw him adding details to nature’s portrait: flowering small trees, shrubs, and butterfly houses.
Nature’s keeper realized his dream!
Hector Rodriguez is a retired clinical social worker. He became interested in writing two years ago. During the pandemic, Hector began to dabble in poetry. Poetry became a way to release stress and express his feelings. Being able to express his feelings in writing was comforting. Hector joined two zoom groups. In one of the groups, a participant told him about the Journal of Expressive Writing. Understanding the importance that we all need the opportunity to express ourselves, he cherishes this opportunity to share his writing with the members of this community. Hector writes from Yonkers, NY.
