On the Wind, in the Day, of a Dream, I Will Find You…

PROMPT—Never will I forget ...

Church bells ring out your name

a shrill, deafening, piercing pain

you were an acolyte.

The foghorn cries for your return

you were the light.

Over emerald mountains, and clear blue seas

coconut and soft pink poui trees sway

as the wind, filled with the old, encircles me

and all I can do is watch, as seagulls dive low,

submerged, seeking sustenance, as I seek love.

A love that touched the ocean’s floor

becoming no more than grains of ancient sand

as if it never was,

but my mind tells me differently

my heart, fastening when I remember

my lips tasting your tongue

my name, rolling out your mouth

making me feel

making me heal

making me grow

grounded in love, in you.

Now, I float

searching, arms outstretched.

Gliding, still, on the vestiges of a love left

when angels

lifted you away.

Leaving chaos

forcing me to live, in a world that can never be real, without you.

A world that might forget, but my tears, like stars,

wait in the quiet between the borders

of shadows to whisper, “I love you.”

Least you forget.
