See Me Smile

By Duane Anderson

ree
PROMPT — Joy is ...

What makes me smile?

going on an outing with my wife

to visit a few friends over dinner,

getting a smile from our dog

as I rub its belly in return,

eating my favorite meal

as I satisfy my hunger,

sitting outside on the deck

as I look at the blue skies

and floating white clouds sailing by,

reading poetry or a novel

from one of my favorite writers,

or my all-time favorite,

getting a hug from my grandchildren

as I return the favor to them.

Yes, life can be great,

and I am ready to move on

to see what is next.

Just look at my big smile

as I walk down the path of life.
