The Colors of Love

By Marc Audet

PROMPT — What is Love?

What is the color of your love?

Is it warm pink, like moist lips

right before a first kiss?

Or is it the hot red you feel

when you are about to lose

yourself in the throes of passion?

Be wary when love turns envy green,

when what you so deeply wish for

remains out of reach, unrequited.

You may come to know cold blue love,

the melancholy color that reminds you

that you were cast out, your confidence betrayed.

Finally, when your time comes,

you will meet black love, love lost

never to be found again, a final parting.

Rest gently now.

Wait patiently for a new dawn

to recolor your soul

with embracing brushstrokes of hope.
