TODAY I AM

By Howard Osborne

ree
PROMPT — Who am I today?

As of yesterday, I wasn’t anybody

No identity, yet not even an entity

Still to emerge from dark obscurity

That most think it’s a strange affair

But with a destiny I must not share

Not fully evolved, but today, I am

I have been released into this world

Fully opened, as a flag now unfurled

A firm tight skin, no longer gnarled

Only that which I need, no surplus

Now to fulfill my one clear purpose

I was not ready before, today I am

Tomorrow will be a radical change

With the adjustments I will arrange

Most thinking it as new and strange

But it shall be right for us, I believe

At last, atmosphere we can breathe

They call me alien, well today I am
