PROMPT — Joy is ...
After, you know, not during
or the moment, after -
the after spoon, I’ve come to
see as the best.
I used to want to get right up,
get a coffee, take out the dog,
but now I realize it’s the most liberated,
tension free of moments.
The need to do, leaves the solar plexus,
dissipates down the arms and legs,
out through the fingers and toes.
It’s an Om moment,
comparable to the mindlessness
that the most successful,
advanced meditation
strives to achieve.
Craig R Kirchner thinks of poetry as hobo art. He loves storytelling and the aesthetics of the paper and pen. He was nominated twice for the Pushcart Prize, and has a book of poetry, Roomful of Navels. After a writing hiatus, he was recently published in Decadent Review, New World Writing, Skinny, Neologism, and has work forthcoming in Ginosko, Your Impossible Voice, Quail Bell, and The Light Ekphrastic.
