Don't You Understand?

By Jenny Ham

PROMPT — Who am I today?

can i be your juliet?

it's august

midday tides clashing against verona beaches

your ocean eyes, sand-colored skin, golden laughter

& summer scent clouding the pure skies

and my sight

romeo, why are you romeo?

hand me the magic potion

rid me of my capulet-ness

you need roma or romalda,

montagues, anyone

but me but can it be july again?

don't you understand, that we are meant to be?
