SACRED COOKING IN THE LOTUS GARDEN

By Joshua Meander

PROMPT—Peace ...

She alone peels

Slowly on pastoral scene.

Zen-like she moves.

Fairytale Chinese pixie

Farms, chops, and cooks

Meshed in a lotus garden

In mountainous Orient.

Relaxed body in grape-dyed

Smoky long dress.

Rabbits, puppies and a lamb

Observe her preparing meals.

Birds sing as she gathers petals

For flower tea which flutter

From her small, feminine hands.

Idyllic country lifestyle

Speaking little & sprouting

To tune of self-reliance

From a bamboo lute plucked

Like plucking of magnolia

Blossoms in sacred garden.

Develop taste for her

Perspective and all will

Easily go down like

A blessing before meal.

Joshua Meander's poems are romantic in spirit with a touch of drama. He writes from Forest Hills, N.Y.
